‘Blade & Sorcery’ Studio Announces Development of New Highly Moddable VR Game

The widely loved VR game, Blade & Sorcery, celebrated its full launch with the 1.0 release in June 2024, marking a significant milestone in virtual reality combat simulations. But the creators at Warpfrog aren’t resting on their laurels. They’re already diving headfirst into their next project, which promises to match the previous game’s high modding capabilities.

While specifics remain scarce, Warpfrog shared with Road to VR that their upcoming venture will remain dedicated to VR. Fans can expect familiar features such as immersive physics-based interactions and a strong focus on simulation, elements that have become trademarks of the studio’s work. The new game will also offer extensive modding capabilities akin to those in Blade & Sorcery.

Blade & Sorcery is renowned for its mod-friendly nature. Players can utilize tools like the Nexus Mod Manager to seamlessly adjust game elements. This can range from subtle effects, like adding more sparks to weapon clashes, to introducing entirely new maps and weapons crafted by the community, creating fresh experiences every time.

In a discussion with Meta back in October, the studio mentioned they’re working on a new framework for the upcoming game. Their past development efforts pushed the limits of the existing framework they used for Blade & Sorcery, especially during its extensive early access period.

“We’re moving away from some of the tangled coding and scaling up. Essentially, we’re overhauling everything to fit a different engine. We’ve begun crafting a new framework that will significantly enhance the next game’s speed. This time, it’s designed with our whole team in mind, marking our first unified effort from start to finish on a project with a full team,” one representative shared.

The anticipation around Warpfrog’s next move is palpable, especially considering their evolution from a lone developer, known as ‘KospY’, to a robust team of nearly 30 talented individuals.

Blade & Sorcery’s latest update in June didn’t just enhance its combat sandbox with more intense melee action. It also introduced the ‘Crystal Hunt’ mode, morphing the game into a rich adventure experience. It now boasts intricate upgrade systems, a captivating narrative, and an expansive world that feels more interconnected than ever before.

Reflecting on Warpfrog’s future, the studio expressed their excitement in a Steam news post: “The real adventure starts now. With the knowledge and experiences we’ve gained over the past five years, we’re eager to reveal what we’re developing next. Your support has empowered us to create even bigger and better games.”
