So, um, today XR Games finally threw open the doors for this VR game called BEATABLE. It’s out of early access on Quest. And wow, they’ve packed in a load of new stuff that basically turns your desk into a musical playground. Don’t ask me why, but smacking furniture in time to music just kinda works, you know?
Here’s the kicker: the whole thing’s hand-tracked. No controllers needed. All you really need is a Quest 2 (or anything newer) and the will to look a bit wild hitting imaginary notes on your table. The table becomes a sort of… partner-in-rhythm crime? Weirdly genius.
Oh, quick backtrack because my thoughts are all over the place—as per usual. So, BEATABLE had this big update today. It’s the first since they dropped five songs back in April. April! Doesn’t that feel like forever ago? But hey, I digress.
The new update brings along a custom song and map editor. Picture it: you creating your own tracks, sharing them. Competing. Kind of a musical Frankenstein moment, really. You’ve got 24 songs now—half were part of the early access deal. And yes, before you ask, there’s an anime-esque anthem by Kudo Haruka and a hard-hitting tune from Mikee Goodman lurking in there. How’s that for a mix?
When I played the early stuff back in April—a little hands-on action, if you will—I noted precision was the stumbling block. Could it hit the right note (pun intended)? Sorta. It was mostly there if you weren’t overly picky.
But now? They’ve thrown in a revamped gesture detection system. XR Games is all like, “Stay on the beat, every beat.” Which, you know, sounds like a challenge of sorts. Also, they’ve spruced up the visuals and gameplay feedback. Not too shabby.
If this tickles your fancy, you’ll find BEATABLE chilling over on the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and above. Goes for about ten bucks. So if you’ve got a penchant for turning household furniture into a musical instrument—well, there you go.
