Okay, so imagine this—you get a new Nintendo Switch 2, right? And what do you do first? You dive into Mario Kart World. You know, maybe you’re out there zooming around, dodging bananas and shells, or maybe you’ve totally parked your kart and it’s collecting digital dust. Either way, time to pop the hood and see what’s really going on with this game.
So, here we are—first new Mario Kart in like, forever. There’s all these bikes and karts—24, if you’re counting. It’s crazy. The tracks are wider now, and it feels like the game finally remembered it’s supposed to be fun, not just a narrow path of doom where you eat shells from players miles back. Thank goodness, right?
You can race by yourself, but let’s be real—multiplayer’s where it’s at. The online thing is surprisingly smooth. I played with some pals, and yeah, I even won a couple times, which is wild ‘cause I usually suck. There’s this chat feature, too—it’s pretty cool. But most probably start solo, you know, to get the feel for it all.
Good stuff sticks around, like Grand Prix and Time Trials. No 200cc, but 150cc is already enough to send you flying off the tracks. The new Knockout Tour—talk about pressure! You’re just racing, and boom! Bottom four? Gone. Keep your eyes open, or it’s game over.
And Battle mode? Ugh. Not quite there yet. Only Balloon Battle and Coin Runners, which feels kinda meh. Track designs are pulling a Mario Kart 8—a blast from the past. I’ve loved Battle mode since, like, forever, so fingers crossed for some upgrades.
Oh, and huge maps! There’s this tiny map icon—missed it at first. Free roam, driving around for coins, costumes. It’s pretty chill, honestly. Day turns to night and sometimes I’m just like, “I wish I could hop out and explore a bit.”
But roaming isn’t pointless—these P Switch things give it purpose. Some missions are killer though—like, you’re jumping all around and suddenly riding rails? Might need some updates here to make it really shine.
Future updates? Oh, who knows, but a better mission tracker would be smart. Also, what’s with all these Marios in costumes? Give us a break, please. Stickers just seem, I don’t know, last minute.
Imagine if they threw in more from classic tracks? That’d be sick. And the soundtrack! Seriously good stuff. If only we had a radio to vibe while cruising.
As for tracks, something feels off—they’re fun, but the individual ones don’t stick out. I mostly notice it with older tracks. Still, some are fun to see again, like Toad’s Factory. DK Spaceport’s my fave new one, probably ‘cause DK himself is locked away until you conquer the first cup. Sneaky!
Anyway, this game—whether you’re new or a veteran—it’s worth checking out. Old fans will love it, and newcomers might find it’s one for the history books. It’s smoothly running on Switch 2 and totally worth the extra for that bundle. Standalone price tag, though, maybe a tad steep until they drop some DLC. But honestly? A game worth playing, crossing the finish line in style.
