I’ve been yammering on about my half-baked enthusiasm for CCP’s shooter, EVE Vanguard. You know, the folks behind EVE Online are trying something new with this FPS. They’re borrowing the shared-world shooter vibe from Destiny and Helldivers 2 but want to sprinkle some EVE wisdom into the mix. Sounds great, huh? Something meaningful for players, they hope. Maybe it’ll shake things up a bit.
Some folks are a bit skeptical about these high-flying promises. If you’re curious, browse the first link above for more bits and bobs. I’ll keep dropping updates as I hang around Eve FanFest 2025 this week. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Talk is cheap, right? CCP Games is itching for you to give it a whirl yourself, and so they’ve finally spilled the beans on the early access launch for EVE Vanguard during today’s FanFest keynote.
Oh, and before I forget—there’s also a public access event happening much sooner on September 16. Shooter fans eager to see CCP’s sort-of successor to Dust 514 can dive in way before general Early Access on Steam next summer. Want to get in on it? Head over to the game’s Discord for more deets.
In all that PR jargon, they’re selling EVE Vanguard as a player-driven FPS sandbox. You know, where players set their own rules and victories in New Eden’s wars. Hunt, scavenge, and deal with messy contracts on chaotic worlds. It’s nice marketing talk, but from what I’ve seen, it’s shaping up to be a robust, fun shooter in a deeper world. A breath of fresh air for those tired of the same old seasonal grind in today’s shooters. But I’ve got to keep some things under wraps for now. Stay tuned for more.
Now, if you’ve been keeping track, you might notice these dates don’t match up with what we previously mentioned. I penned something about getting EVE Vanguard on consoles by 2028, and this was the timeline given:
2024 – Founder’s access
2025 – Early access
2027 – Global launch
2028 – Console rollout
But hey, that Early Access date is now one year earlier. I’m not sure if this shuffles the rest of the schedule (I’ll chase CCP Games about this over the weekend). Anyway, if you’re curious about what Vanguard brings to the table compared to the likes of Marathon or Arc Raiders, you’ll soon have the chance to test it out.
