Okay, so here we go. Drag x Drive on Nintendo’s fancy new Switch 2 — can you believe it? Honestly, when I first heard about it, I thought, really, basketball with wheelchairs and mouse controls? But here we are, with this fresh gameplay trailer out in the wild, and it’s got me all sorts of curious. Came out ahead of its August 14 launch — just putting that out there.
So there’s, like, seven solid minutes of footage, right? I mean, it’s a deep dive (or more like a gentle float, maybe?) into what Drag “and” Drive (that’s the right way to say it, apparently) is all about. Controls, tricks, whatnot — plus stuff that happens beyond the main arena. Seriously, why do I care about court-side hot dogs all of a sudden?
And on our Pure Nintendo Podcast, we’ve been angsting over what kinds of modes might pop up besides these intense 3-on-3 matchups. Turns out, minigames pop in between matches! Spice things up a bit, yeah? There’s online play, a training mode for when you’re feeling anti-social or just anti-human like me — bots included.
Alright, Nintendo’s got this snazzy list of features. You ready? Dive into online lobbies and before you know it, you’re hooping with folks from who-knows-where. Twelve in a Public Park, max. You can also huddle up with pals in Friend Parks — private zones for whatever shenanigans you fancy. Two courts, six players per court — you do the math. And oh, there’s leaderboard stuff too, which is cool if you’re into those bragging rights.
Want a break from the drama? Hop off the court, do some Circuit Sprint, maybe some shooting contests, and what even is a Rebound Scramble? Not gonna lie, I’d probably be hopeless at it. Earn trophies, get those customizable helmets — jazz up your driver to look as weird or cool as you wanna be.
So honestly, those features sound exciting. Did it catch your interest? Could this be a surprise hit for Nintendo? Only time’ll tell, right? Would love to know what you’re thinking about the trailer.
Oh, and a heads up — a Global Jam is dropping a breadcrumb trail before the big release, from August 9-10. So yeah, you can get the demo and mess around with your friends ahead of time. Set your clocks for these times:
– August 9, from 3 am to 7 am PT
– August 9, from 5 pm to 9 pm PT
– August 10, from 9 am to 1 pm PT
Fingers crossed for a slam dunk when Drag x Drive finally lands on August 14. I’ll be holding my breath until then. Or maybe just eating popcorn. Let’s see what happens!
