Sure thing, let’s dive right in. Here goes:

XDefiant, man… what a ride it had. From the get-go, it kinda felt like it was scrambling uphill, with odd bits and pieces from Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed thrown into the mix, and somehow it still couldn’t catch a break. Ubisoft’s been, let’s say, on a bit of an ‘iffy’ streak lately with their games not getting the love they’d hoped for. The live service world is a beast, like a high-speed treadmill that won’t stop. Add to that having to compete with the latest Call of Duty’s chaos, and yeah, it’s a wonder it lasted as long as it did. But let’s not get tangled up — XDefiant wasn’t a disaster. Nope. It had its share of cool moments and took me back, if only a little, to when Call of Duty was at its peak.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Black Ops 6 has me tied up right now — in a good way. But CoD had been meh for a while, at least for me. I’m talking about Modern Warfare 2 and 3, which were kinda like… they got better but were still just not it, you know? XDefiant popped up all like, “Hey, remember when things were simpler?” Smaller maps, some good shooting vibes, and a touch of class-based stuff. It felt right.
Eventually, after some really… let’s say unfortunate hiccups — why is it always something weird holding things up? — XDefiant landed around May last year. Modern Warfare 3 was winding down, and even with quirks like weird hit problems going on, I couldn’t stop myself from diving in.
Season 1, wow, what a blast. Despite the gremlins that insisted on sticking around. I knew deep down the hours I devoted weren’t gonna last. I mean, with another CoD on the way and games like Destiny 2 and Apex Legends hollering my name — choices, choices. But hey, it was sure to slide its way into my game rotation. Or so I thought.
Then oh boy, late 2024 rolled around, and everything started crumbling like stale bread. CoD got all its groove back with Black Ops 6, and suddenly the shortcomings of XDefiant were hard to ignore. We heard this buzz that the game had like two seasons to step it up or it was curtains. Spoiler: it barely got there.
Come December, Ubisoft dropped the big hammer — game over for XDefiant. Snatched off the stores like that, but at least if you already had it, they tossed you one last content festival with all they’d saved up for the next seasons.
So there I was, June 2, clocking in a couple of last rounds. Was I expecting a rush of nostalgia? Maybe, maybe not. But mostly — sadness hit. You know that odd comfort of coming back to an old routine? That’s XDefiant. Smooth yet on its way out. Energetic, even though it was a goner.
Player stats, well, who needs those when you’re in the moment? Matches found themselves quickly enough, and online, it’s pretty packed with people saying their goodbyes. Sure, XDefiant might get laughed off as another ‘Ubisoft misfire,’ and I see why, but honestly? It nailed some things and deserved more time.
So here’s to XDefiant. Adios, mate. Young buddy, more like. It’s all good, since there are loads of other games ready to jump in and fill the void.
