Alright, let’s talk Codemasters for a sec. Ever felt like just when things get good, they suddenly stop? That’s what’s happening with Codemasters and their rally games. They’re hitting the brakes on future World Rally Championship goodies. What? Yeah, I know.
So, they wrapped up this Hard Chargers thing for EA Sports WRC, and boom, announcement time! They’re pulling the plug on more rally stuff. VR fans, all three of you — well, maybe more, but still — might wanna buckle up for another ride. Unless you’re cool with the déjà vu of just playing the old stuff again.
They said something all poetic too, like, “Every journey finds its finish line.” Sounds deep, right? But really, it feels like when you get to the end of a series you’ve been binging, and you’re like, “Now what?”
History lesson time! Not that any of us asked for it, but did you know Codemasters started this whole rally gig before smartphones were a thing? Back in ’91, when the cool kids had ZX Spectrums. Fast forward a bit, 1998 hits, and bam! Colin McRae Rally. Sold like… a bajillion copies! Okay, three million, but you get it.
Flash forward again, and these dudes are VR pioneers. The whole DiRT Rally VR thing? Man, it was like the peak of VR racing games when we looked at it in 2016. The sequel wasn’t too shabby either.
But I’m wondering now, is this pause ’cause EA’s been doing a job cut shuffle? Like 300-400 folks kinda shuffle. Who knows? If we hear something new, trust me, you’ll know.
Now, looking ahead, VR rally fans might be out of luck if Codemasters doesn’t keep the updates coming. F1 25 is hanging on, though. But hey, if some shiny new game appears on the road ahead, I’ll spill the beans. Stay tuned, or don’t — it’s all good.
