Valve’s Steam Deck shook up the gaming world when it dropped. Yeah, maybe it’s lost some thunder now with all the other handhelds flooding in, but let’s be real—Steam Deck is still kind of king in the handheld scene. But folks think it’s only for Steam games. Seriously?
Nope!
You’ve got options, my friend. Beyond your Steam stash, if you’re willing to roll up those sleeves. Enter Heroic Games Launcher—I was messing with it on a Linux gaming build (long story there) and, tada, it opens up your GoG, Amazon, and Epic games. You know, the stuff we grab for free and forget we have? Just me? Anyway, now they’re right there with you on the train, in bed, or wherever you’re procrastinating life.
Anyway—wait, hang on—let’s talk getting Heroic cozy in your Steam Library, so you just chill on your couch and game on.
Kicking off with installing it on your Steam Deck:
1. Hit that Steam button. Go to Power, then “Switch to Desktop.” Feel kind of rebellious doing that. Isn’t it just me?
2. On the desktop, click that Discover icon (fourth in line). It’s like your techie app store mall on Steam Deck. Wander through it.
3. Punch in “Heroic” in Discover’s search. Like magic, but digital.
4. Find it, hit install, and let it do its thing. Go grab a snack.
5. Done? Sweet—shut down Discover, launch Heroic from the Games menu.
Close those popups—update notes, blah blah blah.
With me so far? Alright, now let’s set up your gaming accounts. Started with Epic because who can resist some TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, huh? Adding more is easy peasy—just hit up Stores on Heroic.
Pick a game.
Dive into Show Wine settings, select Proton Experimental. Latest and greatest, well, most of the time. Bugs do happen, because life.
Games installing. You have patience, right? Cyberpunk 2077 took me 40 minutes on GoG. But man, Shredder’s Revenge was quick. Go figure.
Once set up, hit Play. Die a few times in Deathloop. Enjoy the chaos minus my capture gear balking at resolutions.
Heroic’s locked and loaded on your Steam desktop—but we’re not stopping there. Oh no. Integrate it into Steam because, why not. Makes life easier.
1. Main menu, right-click Heroic Games Launcher under Games.
2. “Add to Steam.”
Boom. It’s there. Feeling fancy?
But wait! Pizazz time. With a dash of steamgriddb, we make Heroic look legit:
1. Online, head to steamgriddb, search for Heroic Games Launcher. Enjoy the art buffet.
2. Click, download your favorite, save to Downloads. Name it like you mean it.
3. Fire up Steam desktop version. Yep, the old-school feel.
4. Right-click Heroic Games Launcher, “Set Custom Artwork.”
Navigate, select, done. Looks swanky, huh?
Repeat for the snazzy extras, like background, logo—get artsy. It’s optional but neat.
Switch back to Gaming Mode with that little icon.
And there it is—Heroic Games Launcher is a button press away on Steam Deck, ready to flood you with games. Right, time to play. Or maybe I should write more. Can’t decide.
