US publishing giant Electronic Arts—yeah, EA, the folks behind so many screen-glued evenings—is finally pulling the plug on Anthem next year. Or, wait, not just pulling. More like yanking it right off on January 12th, 2026. Sounds dramatic, right?
They wrote this whole thing in a blog. Oh, and about in-game currency? Forget buying any more, but, hey, if you’ve still got some premium coins jingling around, you can use those up. I mean, it’s not like they vanish into thin air—yet.
“We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion, and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that,” they said. Typical gratitude stuff, feels kinda heartfelt, but I guess they really mean it? Who knows.
And don’t worry, at least for now; they said no layoffs are happening because of Anthem shutting down. But then again, they didn’t exactly say people’s jobs are totally safe in the future. Cryptic, huh?
So, Anthem. Remember that grand thing by BioWare and EA? It was their big splash into live-service gaming back in 2019, but didn’t exactly make waves. More like a plop into the pool instead of a cannonball. Troubled development tales started surfacing… like stories from the trenches or something.
Later that same year, BioWare was all like, “Okay, we’ll fix it, promise.” They even talked about going full revamp with Anthem Next or something along those lines. But then—well, they just hit the brakes on that. Cancelled. Poof. Gone.
Anyway, feels like the end of an era, sorta. Or maybe just another chapter closing in the never-ending book of video games.
