Oof, so Nintendo’s up to something in Canada, playing around with prices on their Switch stuff. Wait, did I tell you I once tried eating fries with maple syrup? Weirdly tangy. Anyway, they’re messing with prices on the OG Switch, the shiny OLED one, and that little Lite version. Plus, games and bits and bobs like Amiibo — whatever those are, right? — and memberships, too. Timing? Anyone’s guess. But mark August 1 for the official website update. What’s shaking things up? Inflation, logistics, tariffs? Who knows, but seems like prices are creeping up.
As of now, you’re looking at CAD $399 for the regular Switch. OLED? That’s CAD $449. Feeling thrifty with the Lite? CAD $259. Maybe they’d bump those up by 5-10%? But don’t hold me to it, I’m just a guy with a keyboard.
Oh, memory lane alert! Remember when they blamed “market conditions” before? Back in April with Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada? Delay because of trade policy jitters, I think — those tariffs playing hardball again — but hey, Switch 2 still dropped on June 5 like clockwork.
BTW, this whole pricing shuffle doesn’t affect the swanky new Switch 2. Bigger screen, beefy specs, and it sold 3.5 million units in four days. Yikes, that’s faster than my old Tetris speedrun (which is saying something).
