Alright, so picture this: the cat and bunny folk in Final Fantasy 14 Online finally get to sport some snazzy headgear. Yep, the word came straight from the game’s devs during one of those fancy-pants livestreams on Friday. Patch 7.3 is the magic number here. The folks over at Square Enix are finally letting Hrothgar and Viera show off their headwear. About time, right?
These critter-like characters have been in the game since 2019’s Shadowbringers added them, and up till now, they’ve been majorly short-changed in the hat department. It’s all about those cute little ears. Cat ears, bunny ears — seriously unique head shapes, right? Made fitting a helmet kinda tricky. But hey, that’s changing soon. Square Enix even promised more headgear options later on. Helmets included! Kind of wondering if they’re trying to push those cool new outfits they’re selling. The ones that, you know, have been useless to these characters.
Anyway, hats aren’t the only thing on the FF14 horizon. Naoki Yoshida and Toshio Murouchi spilled more than just the beans Friday. We’re talking about that Patch 7.3 — “The Promise of Tomorrow” they’re calling it. It wraps up the Dawntrail story in early August. Early August’s not that far, is it? Time flies, huh.
Meanwhile, there’s all this other excitement brewing. New allied society scenario, Yok Huy — no clue who they are but sounds intriguing. Leveling up gets a twist with The Meso Terminal, a level 100 expert dungeon. And if you’re into trials, they’ve got a brand new unnamed one, with both normal and extreme levels. I’d probably stick to normal myself.
Oh! And a 24-player alliance raid. San d’Oria: The Second Walk. Must be quite the walk if they’re naming it second. Say what?! Unreal trial against Seiryu in The Wreath of Snakes and also there’s Pilgrim’s Traverse— a shiny Deep Dungeon.
But seriously — as if all that doesn’t matter, the real deal is those Hrothgar and Viera getting their hat moment. Like, six years of mostly bareheaded drama on the verge of closure.
In case you’re living under a rock, Final Fantasy 14 Online’s available pretty much everywhere. Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X. You get the drift.
