I got my hands on World War Z VR on Quest. You know, kinda like diving into the zombie chaos from the book, that 2013 movie, and those other games. Picture this: a sea of zombies, maybe like 200 on screen all at once? Crazy. So, is bigger better? Let’s see.
Zombie games, right? Usually, fewer zombies equal more fear, ‘cause they’re tougher. But here, one or two zombies are like mosquitos. It’s those big groups that get you. Super-sized by VR standards, seriously.
Imagine flicking away a zombie like you’re brushing crumbs off a table. Yeah, they’re that weak. So you can mow down a crowd, no problem, and survive even when surrounded. But wait, red ones? Yeah, special zombies pop in sometimes to spice things up, changing the game when you least expect it.
Oh, and there are the gas zombies, some that toss sludge at you, screamers pulling in more undead pals, and exploding zombies—lovely, right?
Before jumping in, I half expected constant restarts like the movie, getting overwhelmed. But nah, they sorta wait their turn like they’re in a kung fu flick, taking swings at you all polite-like. Funny, but helpful hordes just keep coming, rolling in like a tide.
Is more better? Hmm, still figuring that out. But more it is. Found myself blasting 20 at a time, easy stuff, as long as ammo’s handy. And those AI buddies? Ugh, not the brightest. They grab the spotlight sometimes but often just stand there, awkwardly, while I’m dodging and scrounging.
Surprises hit me too, like placing a bomb in Tokyo. Not just “boom,” but steps to arm it—twist this, shake that. Adds some depth, kinda nice. And unlocking goodies like machine gun nests? Got my attention.
Coming out of it, was it fun? Yeah, in an unexpected way. Ready to dive deeper for sure. Full review’s on the way, once World War Z VR hits Quest and SteamVR on August 12th. Expect some detailed thoughts on the shooting, weapon arsenal (varied but no mods), movement (all there), and story (so far, just ‘bang, bang’).
Pre-orders are open on the Horizon Store and Steam—20 bucks, if you’re interested.
More to come!
