Okay, so there’s this game, Assetto Corsa EVO, right? It came out not too long ago or maybe it was forever ago—who keeps track of time these days? Anyway, it started off on PC VR and people were like, “Uh, what is this mess?” Apparently, the optimization was a bit wonky. But hey, fast forward a bit and boom, we got the 0.2 update. What’s that mean? Well, some VR stuff got a tweak – hopefully in a good way.
Suddenly, they drop a load of new cars. Seven to be precise. Imagine going from zero to a Maserati GT2 or Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6—if that’s even a real car, feels like I made that up. Did I mention they added tracks too? Circuit of the Americas and Donington Park or something. Not that I’ve ever been to those places. Probably nice, though.
Now you can play by yourself if people annoy you, thanks to the single player ‘Open Mode’ where you just, you know, drive all the cars like there’s no tomorrow. Or, dive into ‘Career Mode’ because who doesn’t love a little fake economic progression in their life?
Oh, and we’re onto “step two” for VR. Whatever that means. I’m not an expert. But there’s stuff like enhanced reflections and new global grass—yes, GRASS—and DLSS whatever that stands for. Things might actually look half-decent now.
By the way, DLSS doesn’t switch off now when you whip from pancake mode to VR. So, fewer headaches, I guess? I’m not complaining.
Needs a beefy PC though if you’re serious about this virtual vroom-vrooming. There’s a sort of new graphics comparison deal somewhere up there—I think—showing where we were with version 0.16 and now this 0.2 version, thanks to the fine folks at ‘HYPEVR TV’.
Oh, almost forgot, there’s talk of six more updates before they hit that 1.0 magic number, planned for Fall 2025. Hopefully, these tweaks make VR worth whatever they’re charging these days—$32, was it? We’ll see.
